Nutrition Counseling

All nutrition counseling is provided by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Appointments are generally provided via telehealth using a secure HIPAA-Compliant online platform. Clients do not need to download anything; they just need to click the provided link and allow access to their camera and mic.

For clients that prefer phone appointments, just let us know!

If you prefer an in-person appointment and live in the Santa Cruz area, we may be able to arrange for the RDN to come to your home or meet at a public location.

What to Expect from Nutrition Counseling

Dietitians no longer prescribe diets or meal plans. Today it is best practice to learn about a client's concerns and medical history, provide some education, and work together to set-up goals.

Follow-up appointments keep clients accountable for their goals, but also are an opportunity to adjust goals that aren't working.

You should expect to work with an RDN for at least 4 sessions to start to achieve results, but often clients will make appointments as needed over the course of years or a lifetime.

We're flexible and our job is to help you at your pace. No contracts or commitments are required other than the commitments you make to yourself to achieve your health goals.

Nutrition counseling is tailored to the individual and we try to keep it enjoyable.

If we determine support is needed with cooking skills, for instance, we may set-up a 1:1 or group cooking class. Or we may determine trying new foods is important so free samples, coupons, and recipes may be offered. Whatever the need is, nutrition counseling can be customized for you and it can be a lot of fun! There's no wrong way to eat a Snickers!

Cost & Payment for Nutrition Counseling

Despite inflation and the rising cost of EVERYTHING, ZEST Nutrition has not raised their rates since we started in 2018.

We try to ensure access to nutrition counseling is available and affordable for everyone.

If you are low-income, a sliding scale fee may be available. Additionally, we may be able to provide a superbill so your insurance company can reimburse you for out-of-network services.

We accept credit and debit cards (with a small fee to help our small business cover costs), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), Health Savings Accounts (HSA), cash, check, Venmo, and bank-to-bank transfers for Nutrition Counseling services.
