Easy Fall Breakfast Ideas that are Healthy

As the gray clouds start to replace the sun and the cool gusts of wind send a chill into the air, we often look to food for comfort.

In fact, many people look forward to fall precisely for the scents of earthy and sweet spices, fresh brewed coffee and tea to keep our sleepy eyes open as the windows close for the season, and calorie-dense meals to prepare our fat stores for the winter, a biological condition humans no longer require in modern times.

Although we haven’t shaken the evolutionary desire for carb- and fat-heavy meals when the weather turns cold, more people are looking for alternatives to packing on the pounds over the fall and winter months.

Below we share a round-up of cozy breakfast ideas that offer comfort for the season while reducing calories, saturated fat, and sugar typically found in our favorite morning treats.

All recipes are gluten-free, but can be made with regular wheat flour for those who do not require a gluten-free diet.

Here are easy fall breakfast ideas that are healthy:

Pumpkin

Pumpkin can seem like an annoying seasonal trend that takes over every autumn, but canned pumpkin can be an easy way to boost the nutrition content in baked goods, pancakes, waffles, pastas, and more. Try one of these on a chilly fall weekend:

Savory

The easiest way to incorporate veggies into breakfast is by sautéing them up and covering them with eggs and cheese. This quiche does just that in a few easy steps.

Oats

Oats are an excellent way to boost nutrition in a cozy way. Oats can contribute towards lowering cholesterol due to their fiber. The fiber also helps with digestion, reducing constipation, and creating a sense of satiety. Oats are also a source of plant-based protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals.  Here are three different delicious ways to prepare oats for the fall and winter months:

Chocolate

Those who know me know I’m a chocolaholic. For information on the potential health benefits of dark chocolate, check out “Dark Chocolate and Health- Is It Good for You?” Here are a couple of chocolate indulgences to consider. The list is sure to grow.

Fruit-Forward Pancakes and Waffles

I love including one of my daily fruit servings into breakfast. The sweetness of fruit - nature’s candy – elevates breakfast to another level while boosting the fiber, antioxidant, and vitamin content. This list will also grow when I can get all of my recipes down in writing. I welcome your favorite family recipes as well.
